Grant awards from the Jewish Women’s Foundation are empowering some of the most vulnerable in our community.

Currently, JWF is in the beginning of a grant cycle. Coastal Roots Farm, G’mach San Diego Jewish Gift Closet, and Ohr Shalom Synagogue are collaborating to provide support, assistance, and social programs for Jewish women and girls in need. These women may be victims of domestic violence, single mothers, Holocaust survivors, or those living below the poverty line.

Grants approved in Fall 2018 for funding by the JWF over the next three years include:

Ohr Shalom

This downtown synagogue created a new program to address the physical and spiritual deficits that thrive
in poverty, Jewish women and girls will be invited to participate in a Wellness Program hosted by Ohr Shalom Synagogue: Marpeh (Hebrew for “healing” or “remedy”) that will convene twice monthly, and will assist women and girls to attain optimal physical and spiritual health by providing yoga therapy, meditation guidance, nutrition information, and nutritious
kosher meals.

With the help of JWF, G’mach – San Diego Jewish Gift Closet, has been able to expand their existing Emergency Fund in order to be able to better serve the most vulnerable Jewish women and girls of the San Diego community.

Coastal Roots Farm

Coastal Roots Farm has expanded an existing program to provide twice-monthly organic produce boxes and at-home visits to 25 low-income Jewish women Holocaust survivors, and their families. Currently, the program serves 14 Jewish women survivors and their families once each month. JWF is honored to be able to provide the funding to make sure our Holocaust survivors eat three nutritious meals a day and have friendly volunteers to visit with when delivering them their produce boxes.
