Roy Sable and Jane Scher

I lost my beloved father on June 23, 2020, at the age of 93 from Stage 4 Esophageal Cancer.

My Dad was a visionary philanthropist, he established the Sable Family Charitable Trust in South Africa when he was 40 years old. His reputation was always to give generously before being asked. He has been formally recognized and appreciated as one of the most consistent, prominent donors in the South African Jewish Community, both during and beyond his lifetime.

Guided by his values, and wanting to Create a Jewish Legacy, my family has established an endowment fund at the Jewish Community Foundation to support an IDF IMPACT! Scholarship, given to former soldiers from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds, enabling them to achieve their dreams of higher education in the field of their choosing.

From 2021/5782 and forever more, there will always be a Roy Sable Legacy Endowment recipient. Over the years, the number of students will multiply, the impact always growing. Roy Sable’s memory will be forever woven into the fabric of Israeli society, as the lives of students and their families are forever enriched.

Creating a living Jewish Legacy in memory of my Dad feels right to us. It is one of the most meaningful ways for us to honor the memory of our father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

He will be lovingly remembered and missed, forever in our hearts. May his memory be a blessing always.
