My late husband Jeffrey Donald Shorn grew up with his two siblings, Clifford Shorn and Amy Shorn Fletcher, in Long Beach, Long Island, New York in a Reform Jewish family. In fact, his father was the president of their temple for a number of years. Jeffrey was what one might call a cultural Jew (I am the “goy” in the family) but was also a man who deeply appreciated his roots and lineage both from his father, Oscar Shorn (nee Ochshorn) and mother, Rhoda Schwartz Shorn.

When Jeffrey passed in April 2021,  I felt it was important to honor him, his Jewish roots, and our long relationship of 47 years through a legacy plan at the Jewish Community Foundation that would  continue over time to  a charity that would support both his and my ideals of  welcoming in the stranger and repairing the world, “Tikun Olam.”  My hope is this Book of Life will capture Jeffrey, his family, and the hopes he left for this world.
