Indonesia suffered great devastation with five major earthquakes, landslides, and a tsunami, all within a few months. The islands of Lombok and Sulawesi were hit the hardest, with approximately 1,900 deaths, 420,000 people displaced, and 191,000 in need of urgent humanitarian assistance.

After Hurricane Harvey flooded Texas and left hundreds of thousands of people without power or access to food and safe drinking water and Hurricane Irma brought death and destruction to Florida, emergency shelters were stressed and aid was desperately needed. Municipal services, roads, schools, and community institutions were shut down, creating a challenge for rescue workers who were trying to reach the thousands of people stranded.
