Jim Farley Talent Investment Fund

The Jim Farley Talent Investment Fund empowers professionals working in Jewish nonprofits across San Diego County by providing access to high-impact development opportunities—ranging from training and mentorship to continuing education and leadership programs. Rooted in Jim’s deep passion for cultivating local Jewish talent and his unwavering commitment to the community, the fund uplifts those who are building a vibrant, resilient, and forward-thinking Jewish future. It also honors the enduring legacy of Toni and Lee Leichtag z”l, whose belief in investing in people laid the foundation for this important work.

The Fund is held at the Jewish Community Foundation San Diego and the primary implementing partner will be JPro San Diego. JPro is a professional network for individuals who work for a Jewish communal organization in San Diego. The goal of JPro San Diego is to increase the sense of pride for working in the San Diego Jewish Community and support the growth of the talent in our field.

  • Each year, the fund will distribute at least $12,500 with individual awards up to $2,500. Applications will be reviewed on a quarterly basis by a selection committee including members of the JPro San Diego team, Charlene Seidle, and Jim Farley.
  • Awardees will be invited to attend an annual luncheon with Jim Farley, invited guests and the JPro San Diego team to share their experience and celebrate their professional achievements.

About Jim

Jim Farley led the Leichtag Foundation as President and CEO from 2007 to 2024 and now serves as Executive Chair. He was the Foundation’s General Counsel from 1995 to 2007, while practicing law and being active in the community.
Jim’s wide-ranging professional background and passion for community leadership helped spark the Foundation’s purchase of Leichtag Commons—a space he’s described as “an agriculturally inspired laboratory for Jewish life and community development.” Over the years, he’s been especially known for his enthusiastic mentoring of up-and-coming leaders and putting Foundation resources toward meaningful professional development and capacity-building efforts. Just a few notable examples include his vision to create what is now The Hive at Leichtag Commons, his leadership to support a first-ever retirement fund for professionals at the JCC, and ongoing support of conferences and professional development experiences of all kinds for many organizations and individuals.
A San Diego native with a long history of community involvement, Jim has held volunteer leadership positions for several local nonprofits. He’s served as Board President for Seacrest Village Retirement Communities; the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center; and the San Diego Botanic Garden. He’s also been active on the boards of the Jewish Funders Network and the San Diego Foundation.
