Grant awards from the Jewish Women’s Foundation are empowering some of the most vulnerable in our community.

Currently, JWF is in the middle of a grant cycle. Jewish Family Service and the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, Jacobs Family Campus are collaborating to provide vital assistance and social programs for older Jewish women, both in their homes and out in the community.

Statistics show the number of hours retirees are watching television is astounding, which unfortunately also contributes to their isolation. Please

Grants approved in fall 2014 for funding by the JWF over the next three years include:

Jewish Family Service

Jewish Family Service has expanded its existing services, such as its Bikkur Holim Friendly Visitor Program, increased Sunday transportation, and lunch and entertainment at its College Avenue Center. JFS also partners with teens through The Friendship Circle and provides technology education to senior women. Program outreach is focused in eastern San Diego.

Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center

The JCC invites participants to a variety of topics, clubs, Jewish holiday celebrations, and outings. Women who are already active in the JCC programs host newcomers for afternoon teas and Shabbat dinners, and serve as ambassadors to welcome the new women when they attend JCC activities. The JCC also offers technology tutoring with teens for the seniors to keep in touch with their grandchildren, and also mentor the teen volunteers.
