Jewish Funders Network (JFN)

A national member organization, JFN strives to bring new perspectives of Jewish values and strategic giving to the Jewish philanthropic community. The site provides a forum to exchange ideas with other funders, learn about current issues of Jewish and secular concern, examine philanthropic traditions of Judaism, improve grantmaking skills and techniques, and explore the personal and intergenerational dynamics involved in grantmaking. Please contact the Jewish Community Foundation in order to obtain the password for the members only site.

Tzedakah Reports

This website offers a searchable database with profiles of Jewish charities detailing basic contact information, organizational programming, leadership and financial stability. It endeavors to assist donors to give with care, thought, knowledge, and an overall strategy. It also reviews selected Jewish views and laws as related to charitable giving.

San Diego Grantmakers connects and provides resources to a wide variety of philanthropists and foundations in the San Diego region.

National Center for Family Philanthropy (NCFP)

The NCFP researches issues tied to family grantmaking practices and develops clear and helpful publications around these issues. The Web site offers access to their research and publications on the field.

Newtithing Group

The Newtithing Group is a philanthropic research organization founded to encourage individuals and institutions to increase their charitable giving, by helping prospective donors determine their ability to give based on current income, investment assets and expenses. The organization was founded by Claude Rosenberg, author of Wealthy and Wise: How You and America Can Get the Most Out of Your Giving

The Philanthropic Initiative (TPI)

TPI helps donors increase their impact through the development of innovative and strategic approaches to philanthropy. TPI offers resource materials and individual consulting on focused giving as well as the development, implementation and evaluation of programmatic initiatives.

National Charities Information Bureau

The NCIB provides detailed reports on major nonprofit organizations, including mission information, financials and evaluations.

Guidestar

If you wish to conduct your own research about potential grantees’ tax-exempt charitable status as defined by Internal Revenue Service (IRS) codes, we encourage you to visit www.guidestar.org. Guidestar offers a database of over 600,000 nonprofit organizations registered with the IRS. It also provides up-to-date information on events and activities in the philanthropic world and resources for donors and nonprofits. In the “Find Nonpofits” field, enter the name of the organization you are researching or the Tax ID number (sometime referred to as EIN number).

Women’s Philanthropy Institute

The Institute brings together philanthropists to educate and advance women as major donors and volunteer leaders. Through programs and publications, the Institute educates women so that they have the knowledge and ability to make individual and collective philanthropic choices.
